I took advantage of the triple score Christmas sale…

It looks like we still have about 10 days to 2 weeks of ok weather before the ground freezes here. We are also supposed to get some rain which will help make the ground more diggable.

I’ve been out of the hobby for awhile but my grandson is showing interest so I thought what the heck. I’m thinking a simplex for him, but which model? Any advice would be appreciated.

I’m an old Fisher cz guy so 8m sure there will be a learning curve, probably a lengthy one for me on the triple score! Getting up and down isn’t as easy as it used to be either at 71. Hope springs eternal!!

Wow, where do you live Alaska?
The simplexes are good detectors but are not the lightest or easy to use for many because of the tones. For a great super lightweight waterproof detector I like the X10 pro at around $200. For a light and easy to use SMF detector the 440 or 540 vanquishes are great too. A used one can be had for around $200 +/-
The CZs are great but heavy to swing.

I got out for a couple of hours yesterday. Cold and snow next week so racing Mother Nature. Here’s my thoughts.

1. At 71, getting up and down and digging isn’t as easy as it used to be!

2. Just reading the manual before hand isn’t enough.

3. I should have run a bunch of my old coin finds under the coil to see what the vid numbers were.

4. I love how light it is….and how much heavier it seemed towards the end.

5. With the Christmas special, it’s quite a dea when you subtract the retail price of what the headphones, pouch, carry bag, digger, hat, and probe cost separately.

6. I miss the ease of use of my old cz70 pro…but man did it love iron..especially old nails.

7. Hopefully with a winter of studying and learning the adjustments the triple will become more natural.

Hope springs Eternal!! The anticipation of digging a new find never goes away.

Bob, I am also 71 and four back surgeries behind me. Really leaning hard toward a Triple Score. Thanks for sharing your learning curve experiences.

Boys, I am working on 74 years old, have a broken back metal plate with scrues, and use a Whites MXT most of the time. I love my MXT, can't give it up. I do have 8 other detectors that weigh less, but i go back to the MXT most of the time. You just have to grin and bear it. Get some good detecting in before it gets hot again. Happy New Years, flintstone

Ouch - Just a tad younger here but not by much. I already don't want to swing a heavier detector and don't care to dig deep - up/down up/down.
I bought a Double Score when on sale and have yet to try it. I wish I would have waited and got the Triple instead but oh well.
Added a small coil and seems light and easy to swing.

Thanks for the info and I guess I should give the Double a fair chance - this morning I blew the chance. headed out this morning after breakfast and only took the Compadre since it wasn't raining.
As soon as I got set up, detector in hand and accessory belt ready to go it started dumping rain, so everything went right back in the SUV and we sat and waited for a break. This is when I should have taken the Double. After sitting almost half an hour, it was still raining and the wind kicked up so we headed home. Could have, should have taken the Double - I have always taken 2 or more detectors and look what happens the first time I don't. Oh and we get home and the rain has stopped
