Was thinking I should post in the comparison section but this was more of a go over the same area I had hunted in mid-June with the Legend. Yesterday was the first time out since that hunt. I used the Legend on that hunt at a church that was being torn down. The one I attended as a lad. Have not been out but maybe a dozen or so times this year and have used the Legend on those occasions. The area is only maybe 30 feet wide by 100 ft. max. and the first time there about a third of it was fenced off. The Pastor said just stay out of the fenced in area. I used Park M1 . Did pretty well that day, 1.48 in clad an 1888 V nickel, 5 wheats and the find of the day was a two quarter spill, a dateless SLQ and a 42 GW. It was right around this time Minelab came out with the update si I thought about a go over of the area. Figured I would wait till demo was done then head back. That was yesterday. Fence was gone so I decided to hit the area I had missed with the Legend first. Same settings. First signal was a mixed 40s-50s by the flag pole. A little spill with a wheat. a memorial and a 44 Merc,. Great way to start. I dug a couple more wheats and some clad and few blank cartridge cases. Finishing the area I went back to get the 900. I prefer Field 2. One thing I did do was turn the sensitivity down to 20. I had the stock coil on. First target stopped me in my tracks, it hit in the 90s a round smooth tone for sure. But #s were all over the place. I dug and to my surprise a 1908 Ihp popped out. It was not all that deep and I thought, crap, now I gotta dig those zincoln signals. Long story longer The 900 hit, tone clean, numbers jumpy, most starting out in the high 80s to high 90s and turned out to be be deep memorials. 15 on the day. When I got a 90s and it only moved 2 or 3 numbers it was silver, 3 more Mercs showed up as did a 1908 V nickel. A little odd in two trips I dug 13 nickels, 2 Vs but no Buffs. Ended up with total of 1.37 in clad, 4 silvers, an Ihp, a V nickel and some bits and bobs. I do find it a little hard to believe I missed all those targets the first time in such a small area. And I did do a N-S &E-W sweep the first time there. Yesterday I only got a N-S sweep as after 7 hours or so I was running out of steam and not being out for almost 2 months I am sorely out of shape.
I can't really say if I saw a difference with the upgrade. The machine is sparky as hell, the numbers still fluctuate more than I would care to see but it does smack the coins. Between a penny and a dime its a crap shoot but quarters and nickels are steady and within 3, 26-27-28, 89-90-91. I did have it listed for sale but maybe I'll hang on to it a while longer. If you got this far thanks for reading. Mark
On a post script the church I mentioned, when I heard about it being torn down I didn't think much until I saw it being demolished. A grand and beautiful piece of architecture that took almost 20 years to build was finished in 1896. Its steeple was the highest point in the county. And like alot of our history it was just erased. I was able to get a few bricks and a piece of the stained glass.
