Video I watched last night with Steve Moore

In hindsight, seems that Steve was teasing the additional features that Garrett announced for the Vortex yesterday.

I wish they had asked more about the "platform" that Garrett has developed for this new machine. Steve said himself that many (most?) people are going straight for the VX9 and therefore don't have anything to upgrade to.

Does that mean Garrett is open to developing "machines" with more features that VX9 users will be able to upgrade to at some point?

I responded to your reply on a thread on Detector Prospector but will respond here also

I personally do not see the VX9 as the end product, as I see endless possibilities with this new Vortex, and its up to Garrett to take it through to those endless possibilities, not only with updates but also Upgrades.

as I have said for me personally the lack of a ton of settings and features is the appealing thing with the Vortex VX9

But having said that I could honestly see Garrett pushing the VX9 to compete against detectors like the Manticore, Deus 2, Legend and all the Nox line up (and I am not saying that the Vortex will not match up against those other brands) yet, because we just do not know as of yet, none of us have a Vortex in our hands yet to assume anything, but what I do mean by my statement I can see endless possibilities of features and settings

I honestly hope that Garrett makes it so we can choose the Features we want to add, as new features come out, and if we do not want a feature that they have come out with we don't have to install it, in other words give us as the end USER the option to install a feature or not install a feature

its like the Legend and this is just my opinion Nokta made some of those Updates so dang large to download and install that some of the first Legends just could not handle the large install files and it literally messed up some of the first Legends, and (again this is just my own personal opinion), I was one that personally had issues with my first Legend and it got to the point that I finally gave up on the Legend, i ended up taking my first legend back to a version that was not even offered to any of us, and left it at that and parted ways with two of my Legends because of how disgusted I was with my first Legend

(which by the way I still have that first Legend) but it now sits here in my detector room collecting dust

I do not want the Vortex to become another dust collector in my detector room, so as I said (KISS) and again I am not calling Garrett stupid at all

on behalf of Nokta I did have Mark Tymensky reach out to me and ask what he could do to change my perception of Nokta and I declined any further help from Nokta and I told Mark exactly why that it was simply because I have lost faith in the Legend and Nokta all together, (I wish Nokta no ill will in any way) in fact I hope they succeed in everything they are doing, but after a year of sending emails and phone call attempts going UN responded to I gave up on getting my Legend back to working correctly like I seen in the Beta test Version 1.10 version 3, I absolutely loved the Legend up until 1.11 was installed, and then after the install of 1.11 everything went completely sideways with my first Legend so as I said my first Legend sits collecting dust in my detector room, and it will remain there as a harsh reminder, My first Legend was an original 1.04 version and was in the first shipment to hit the U.S shores

I do not personally want the Vortex VX9 to become another Legend for me, to where I absolutely hate the VX9 like I hate the Legend now

Yeah, Garrett will need to offer a substantial additional upgrade option for the VX machines to compete with any of those, especially the Manticore and D2. Again, seems like an obvious next step given the groundwork they're laying. But, then, Garrett has made some choices lately that have left me scratching my head, so who knows.

I'm a little confused by what people want when they suggest this (to be clear, I haven't heard any manufacturer suggest that they're considering a system like this). Every detector has lots of features (frequencies, # of tones, iron disc, etc). It's just a matter of whether you, the user, can change a given setting, or if the manufacturer set it for you.

Declining to have the ability to manipulate certain settings wouldn't make them go away, it would just mean that the manufacturer decides them for you. That could make for a simpler user interface, but is it really any different than having the option to adjust a setting but deciding not to change it? I mainly swing a Deus 2, and on most hunts, I adjust the same two or three settings, even though that machine has a LOT more than that. In that sense, it's not so different from using a VX machine (or at least, it doesn't have to be).

I was one that personally had issues with my first Legend and it got to the point that I finally gave up on the Legend

Sorry to hear that the Legend didn't work out for you. What issues did you have, exactly?

I am not going over all that again, you can look back at previous post and read what those issues were I had with my Legend, there were numerous issues that happened after I installed 1.11
