Is there any way to tell on the Equinox 800 what version it is?

The box (if you have it) will state which version it came with when new.
If it has the F2 iron bias, it has at least 2 updates I believe.
There was one more update after that, but I can’t recall what it was for.
Just looked it up… version 3.0 is the latest version and if your detector has 4khz single frequency option, it has version 3.0.

you know that leads me to thinking :: when you update any of the units are you truly seeing any difference in operation/performance of the detector ? Just wondering. I have a 2 yr old nox 600, no idea what version it is don't know if there are any updates for the unit. Hell dont even know if its updateable.

You can also download the MUU software to your laptop / desktop.Attach the charging cable to your equinox and it will tell you which version you have.

As far as increase in performance, I can’t really say as I was happy with how mine was doing before the updates… updating did not seem to have any negative effects on it.
There are updates available for your 600 too.
As I stated above, if you have the original box and you are the original owner, it will state which version it has.

Thanks Felix; I'll do a deeper dive into this update discussion in the coming days. Like yourself, to me the performance of the 600 was/is pretty damm good. I base that statement on alot of detecting at the OBX last fall. Tho the trip pretty much sucked and not much was found at all, I ran the detector near max sens and it was impressively stable...
Will try to keep you in the loop and let u know what I find out.

Nothing wrong with that 600.
A friend of mine has one and although he does not get out as much as me, he has done well with it.
I know many detectirs have come out since the 600/800, but I am still using my 800 and see no need to upgrade.
I did buy an XTerra Pro last Dec. to use for water detecting and have been using that exclusively on land and recently in lakes and rivers since to get used to the new scale.
I have done quite well with it too…. For what paid for mine, it is a great metal detector… since getting it, I have found loads of coins including over 800 quarters.
About your trip last year.. I recall your post about it.. if it is not there, no detector will find it!!!
Felix is spot on! I have a 600 and upgraded to the 900. The 900 has a few more bells and whistles but that's about it! I have went over private property with my 900 that I have hit with my 600 and I will tell you that there is very little left to find with the 900. The 600 is a darned good machine!

you bought the xterra pro for water hunting ? are you reluctant to dunk the 800 for fear of leaking ? I too have not dunked mine. I bought the tony eisenhower water proof headphones to use with it. Supposedly the later run units for the 600/800 had addressed the leak problem... hmmm not sure on that if i trust them. besides I have the cz20/21 for hunting in lakes anyway.

Yes… I have concerns about it leaking after others had issues…I was told by a dealer that mine is about on the line of where they supposedly remedied the problem with leaks, but since I am not sure, other than submerging the coil, It does not go underwater.
I used a Sand Shark that I bought back in 2012 to use in freshwater lakes and at the beach, but when the XTerra Pro came out, I was interested since it could also be used at the beach in addition to land and fresh water detecting… for the price, being waterproof, and capability to use it in salt water conditions, I think it is a great detector!!!
It will be a great little back up for my 800, and I can also use the coils from my 800 on it as well as the waterproof headphones I have.
As far as my 800, I bought it in October of 2019…. Now sure if this helps you in deciding to use yours in the water.
I was aware that some were leaking before I bought mine and simply decided not use it in the water.
With that said, I have had zero issues with it and have absolutely no regrets.
It is an amazing detector in my opinion, and I have found more clad and silver coins with it than any other detector that I have had probably put together!!

WOW.... your last sentence is some claim !! Were you ever an owner/hunter with the original explorer/exp 2 ? For me either of those 2 detectors were the beast of all beast for finding and Id'ing deep copper and silver coins. Not sure if the 600 has the potential to mirror those results, I just don't hunt like I used to. I guess after approx 30 yrs in the hobby the interest has faded quite a bit.

I had the Sovereign GT and found many nice old coins including lots of silver…then along came the equinox series…this is where I agree with fwcrawford! The amount of coins I found were staggering along with plenty of silver! To me, the equinox is one helluva detector!!

I have never owned the Explorer series or the ETrac, but a friend of mine had an ETrac and did quite well with it.
In fact, after seeing how good he was doing, I was thinking about getting one myself.
When the Equinox came out, I was not thinking of getting one especially after reading about all the problems folks were having with them, but JimmyCT bought one and was showing me all the finds he was making and how surprised
he was to be finding old coins in the numbers he was.
I finally bought one and the very first day I took it out to an old house site that has seen just about every detector made and within a few minutes I got a great signal.
I dug down about 6" and found a 1909 wheat penny next to a large rusty nail!
I was simply amazed that this coin eluded so many other detectors and yet gave a great signal on the Equinox.
It just kept getting better after that.... I was in amazement at how good the signals were that I was getting in other places I had hunted for years and in many cases had never found a silver coin before.
I think the first year I had it, I found 87 silver coins and just about all from sites that I have detected for quite a few years.
I am not saying it is the greatest detector made, but it has sure impressed me and continues to do so.
It is very versatile too in my opinion. more so than other detectors I have owned.
