Ive not tried the X-Y screen myself yet, im still learning this machine. I have herd that the X-Y screen setup may help on target identification but havnt talked to anyone who has actually compaired the standard screen against the X-Y screen performance. I would like to hear your personal thoughts please?

X-Y screen user opinions please?

I like the XY screen and use it 95% of the time these days. For me, audio rules when it comes to dig or don't dig, but the XY helps me confim my decision sometimes. To me it gives me more info than the horseshoe when it comes to IDing iron.

Tried it for a while. It was pretty neat to watch, but, in my opinion, not all that helpful.

What is said here about the audio(for the umpteenth time) is totally true. I can have the RC in my pocket and make accurate dig/no dig decisions on coins all day. However, this obviously changes when you’re hunting things OTHER than coins, and the X-Y might be more useful there. Whatever method used to enhance one’s finds, that’s what should be used…
Im listening to all that you guys are saying. I didnt say this earlier but me and my wife are pretty much relic hunters BUTT we want all of the coins and jewelery we can dig too! I pass up a lot of questionable signals because I think that Im so smart that I know whats down there, my wife digs most all good signals unless its super trashey area and she has got some good stuff that I would have passed up, for instance a complete and loaded cannon ball that I just wouldnt have dug because I would have been sure that it was big iron.....and it was, a big iron cannon ball. Ive got an idea that the XY screen MAY help ID better but havnt tried it yet. I will try it in my yard today to give it a test shot

I think sometimes people get wrapped up in their world of coin hunting and think everyone else is doing the same thing. Personally here in my area is not a old historical area where there would be old coins and other things. Lucky if you can find coins going back to the 1980’s not 1880’s.
So if you want to do the hobby here you need to enjoy finding whatever. Also it’s mostly tourist beaches so whatever you expect to find on a modern beach that is constantly hunted by many others. Soil variations in different areas also make a huge difference.
Everyone does it for different reasons and enjoyment but what and where you hunt should determine your detector setup and that will vary with everyone.
There is no universal settings that will work great for everyone everywhere and factor in style. Some prefer audio over a visual display to determine dig or not.
They are all tools but only you can determine which tools will work best for you

IMO, to dig or not to dig is determined on the site, regardless of your preference, audio/visual. If I am in a field, I am chasing/digging the bulk all signals. Someone’s pristine yard, more the cherry picking route, clear, concise repeatable signals on the higher end of the scale. I have yet to use the XY feature. I have only had my D2 since last fall, still working on getting to know what it is telling me with the preset factory settings. So far has treated me well.

If you are a relic hunter then why even bother with a screen to begin with??
All you need is 2 tone audio. One beep for non ferrous and a low one for iron.

Not really. It depends on where I'm hunting and what im expecting to find, relics\coins.
XY screen not too good in trashy areas. I like to use it with Full Tones especially on suspect aluminum. The Full Tones gives a wavering sound that might not be easy to hear at first. But with the XY screen I can hear the wavering better by viewing the screen. Easy enough to create a program to check aluminum next to your main program, then hit + or - button to switch programs to make the check. Now you will need to dig any suspect target until you know how the XY works so you don’t miss any good targets. So once you know what aluminum looks like you want to look for any slight difference which could be a gold ring. Another thing about Full Tones, wiggle the coil off the target to see what it sounds like. Really good YouTube video avoid digging trash with XP Deus

Its like pitch tones I can't use that maybe in the woods where theres no trash thats it or fields

Also after watching that video realize you do not base your dig/no dig decision on only one thing like the elongated tone. Take all the factors in before you decide.
Another thing, when learning a new technique maybe just spend an hour each time you go out to work on it. Watch out for naysayers. They will leave the good stuff for you. Gold Field program takes some work but amazing results. Listen for the short zip zip sound. Not too much IAR maybe 3 max.

Thanks for the opinions guys , Im going to try everything this detector has to offer but I want every tip I can get along the way. Every place that I have to hunt has a mixture of a little bit of old treasure with a lot of new trash mixed together so any edge up will be appreciated.
Even extreme trashy areas thin out as you move away from the center. Find that area to practice. Especially the Gold Field program . Hopefully you watched the video and understand how a clean signal like gold or even coin gives a short, sharp signal. Deep is better. Coins not as sharp.
