We have seen a lot of detectors up here in Fargo since 1973 when I started. The detector I used was a whites coinmaster 3 which did not disc and when I was able to get many of my gold rings as there were very little pultabs, but we had the crown caps and had to learn to tell the difference . The Park called island park in downtown Fargo was old and when others said I wasting my time there I did well as you have to have patience. I havent tried it for a couple of years because of health issues, but still think if you have a good detector and know it well you may still beable to pull some old ones there. Another area I tried 0nce and havent been back for a while as I was trying a new detector to see what it could do and the sled hill by the dike in Fargo where everyone slides down I pick some new stuff and a gold ring from there a few years ago. My dad used to detect this every spring and got many rings and lot of new coins too. Oak Grove park also did well for me with my Minelab Sovereign a few year back as a guy in our club we have said he worked a area well and believe it was cleaned out so challenged me to find coin he missed. In the 12 hours in that week I only found about 6 or seven new coins, but got 30 some old coins others have missed, It does take patience and knowing your detector well to do this.
.now Lindenwood park is also old and we seen some good finds there, but it too is hard to work, last year one of the guys with his detector found a barber half in the far end of the park, but it is trashy too. for newer coins around the playground is a good place to try as there has been some old coins there too, but it is far and few, but some are still there.
Now Floodplaninerdetector is a hard core hunter along with a few others around here and they do a lot of research and travel a lot too and go around the tri states and I know one that gets up like 3 in the morning to get to a site and detect several site in that area he has research and may not get back home till 5 or 6 the next morning.
We have a metal detector club that meet in my Bar and cafe here in Chaffee, ND and haven had a meeting since last November because of the weather this winter and think one will be soon and we also have a hunt coming up first part of June where they plant coins and we got so much time to get what you can, There is a entry fee on this hunt and it is a 2 day affair with people coming to it from around the area and some go a way to to make it as we all have fun and swap or treasure stories.
This is a fun hobby for most if you have the patience , if you think you are going to find all kinds of treasure and get rich it is not the hobby for you, but it can happen is why many of us have a great time doing this and meeting others too.
